Man is held after shooting

A man accused of firing shots at a La Habra police officer Friday afternoon was taken into custody Saturday morning, officials said.

Todd Frederick Irvine, allegedly a parolee-at-large, was seen driving on Walnut Street near Whittier Boulevard about 3:15 p.m. Friday. An officer tried to pull him over, but instead of stopping, Irvine fled north toward La Habra Heights, jumped out of his car and then disappeared into a wooded area, police Sgt. J. McPhail said.

Soon small-caliber handgun fire was flying in the officer's direction. The officer was not injured and didn't return fire because he couldn't see the gunman.

Irvine was taken into custody about 7 a.m. Saturday and will be transferred to the Orange County Jail, McPhail said.
