ALISO VIEJO – Sheriff's deputies used a bloodhound to track down an Aliso Viejo teenager who police say ran from them and hid in thick brush after breaking into a string of cars this morning. A second suspect is still sought.

At least four vehicles parked along the greenbelt on Seagull Lane near Surfbird Lane were broken into around 2 a.m., sheriff's Lt. Larry Abbott said.

Working their way down the street, the thieves pulled out briefcases and other property out of the cars, Abbott said.

"They'd hit a car, put the stuff on the side and move on. Then they were going to come back and pick up all the goods at once," Abbott said.

The bloodhound found Kagsushiro Kubo, 19, of Aliso Viejo, in the bushes a short distance away, more than three hours after a passerby noticed the string of stolen items lined up along the greenbelt and called the Sheriff's Department.

Deputies chased two men through the neighborhood before losing them in the thick brush and calling in the bloodhounds to pick up their scent, Abbott said.

Deputies smashed a suspicious car's window to investigate further after the car's owner said his 19-year-old son had taken the car but didn't know where Kelvin Nguyen could be.

Using items found in the car, a bloodhound named Taffy tracked Kubo to the brush. Kubo was arrested on charges of resisting arrest.

Police are still looking for Nguyen, who is described as 5-foot-8 and about 110 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

Anyone with information is asked to call sheriff's investigators at 949-425-1900.
